Spirox Debuts SP7000G to Tackle Glass Substrate Inspection Hurdles

As artificial intelligence and high-performance computing push packaging limits, Spirox has unveiled the SP7000G, a high-speed inspection system designed to detect microscopic cracks in glass substrates. The company introduced the technology at its 2026 Advanced Packaging Technology Forum in Hsinchu, aiming to accelerate the shift toward high-volume manufacturing.

Spirox Debuts SP7000G to Tackle Glass Substrate Inspection Hurdles

The SP7000G system performs a full-panel scan of 510 mm by 515 mm glass substrates in under 20 minutes. This speed addresses a critical bottleneck in semiconductor production, specifically identifying internal microcracks that appear following metallization and ABF build-up. By integrating laser tomography, the tool allows for non-destructive analysis, a capability that partners like Corning emphasize as essential for maintaining material integrity during the transition to mass production.

Industry experts at the forum, including representatives from DNP and Corning, highlighted that reliability remains the primary obstacle for Glass Core and Through-Glass Via (TGV) technologies in large-scale AI server packages. According to Paul Yang of Spirox, the new system complements the existing SP8000G model, creating a tiered inspection ecosystem that spans from initial research and development to full-scale factory lines. This equipment aims to provide the precision necessary to monitor defect distribution and optimize yields as chipmakers increasingly move away from traditional organic substrates.
