SKF and Sentea Partner to Scale Fiber-Optic Bearing Intelligence

Swedish engineering giant SKF is teaming up with fiber-optic specialist Sentea to launch SKF Core, a hardware platform designed to simplify the deployment of advanced sensor-equipped bearings. By integrating processing and communication into a single unit, the collaboration aims to push predictive maintenance into mainstream industrial manufacturing.

The new hardware platform supports the latest generation of SKF Insight bearings, which provide operators with real-time visibility into internal machine conditions. Beyond tracking standard metrics like speed and temperature, the sensors now monitor lubrication levels, contact pressures, and overall bearing health. According to Mark Verbakel, head of SKF Insight, this granular data allows machine builders to move from reactive repairs to predictive maintenance, effectively reducing unplanned downtime.

Sentea CEO Karsten Verhaegen noted that the partnership focuses on bringing fiber-optic sensing technology to scale in industrial environments. SKF plans to debut the Core platform and its accompanying bearing solutions at the AMB 2026 exhibition in Stuttgart, scheduled for September 15–19. The company will also use the event to showcase its new Performance series of super-precision angular contact ball bearings and an automated Progressive Lubrication Pump designed to lower total ownership costs for industrial operators.
