Barcelona Prepares for Smart City Expo 2026 Focus on Housing

Barcelona’s Gran Via venue will host 25,000 attendees from November 3 to 5 for the Smart City Expo World Congress. Under the theme "Urban Solutions, Real Impact," the 2026 event shifts its focus toward the global housing crisis, bringing together 1,000 cities to debate new residential paradigms and scalable technology.

The congress program organizes discourse across seven core tracks, ranging from artificial intelligence and energy to social equity and the blue economy. More than 600 speakers are slated to address the assembly, including futurist Nikolas Badminton and Ayumi Moore Aoki of Women in Tech Global. Their contributions aim to bridge the gap between long-term strategic foresight and inclusive urban leadership.

A significant addition to this year’s schedule is the debut of the HOWS Barcelona summit. This initiative targets critical bottlenecks in urban development such as land policy, social housing regulation, and the repurposing of existing infrastructure. The exhibition floor will feature major industry players like Microsoft, Google, and NVIDIA, alongside the inaugural "Terra50" showcase, which highlights the top 50 sustainability solutions currently being implemented in urban environments worldwide.

The event runs concurrently with the Tomorrow.Mobility and Barcelona Deep Tech summits, cementing the city's role as a centralized hub for international urban innovation.
