Jason Isbell Sues Suno Over Unauthorized AI Imitation

The complaint, filed by the law firm Korein Tillery, asserts that Suno’s technology allows users to generate songs, voiceprints, and imagery by specifically prompting the platform with artists' names. According to the court documents, the software functions across a vast range of genres, including blues, country, and rap, effectively creating a name-indexed database of musical identities. The suit invokes state right-of-publicity laws and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, citing the unauthorized storage of voiceprints as a central grievance.

George A. Zelcs, a partner at Korein Tillery, noted that Suno’s public-facing product contradicts the company’s internal assertions regarding its training data. The legal team argues that even if Suno holds licenses from major music labels, those agreements do not bypass the human creators' rights to control their own likenesses. The litigation seeks to establish a precedent for artists to reclaim authority over their creative identities in an increasingly automated industry.
