Teamsters Walk Out at Encore Boston Harbor Over Contract Dispute

The work stoppage involves 211 Teamsters spanning roles from warehouse and horticulture to cage cashiers and valet services. While the resort generated $847 million in Boston revenue last year, union representatives argue that management failed to offer meaningful wage or benefit improvements during recent sessions. The strike authorization followed a 97 percent vote in favor of industrial action taken by the union members on August 20.

Thomas G. Mari, President of Local 25, stated that the company’s refusal to address worker demands has left the staff with no alternative but to shut down operations. Lead gardener James Atkins emphasized that employees are prepared to remain on the picket line indefinitely until the company presents a contract that respects their contributions to the five-star facility. For now, the resort faces significant operational disruptions as union members refuse to cross the picket lines.
