UMHS Medical Graduates Secure 94% Residency Match Rate

These figures underscore the school’s role in placing physicians into North American healthcare systems amidst ongoing clinical staffing shortages.

UMHS Medical Graduates Secure 94% Residency Match Rate

The 2026 cohort successfully secured residency positions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, entering competitive specialties including anesthesiology, psychiatry, and emergency medicine. This success highlights the institution’s focus on personalized academic support and clinical preparedness, which officials credit for maintaining high placement consistency across diverse student backgrounds.

Among the year’s notable outcomes, 52-year-old graduate Dr. Tomika Moody secured a family medicine residency in South Carolina. Her placement marks the culmination of a 30-year journey toward medical practice, serving as a primary example of the school's commitment to nontraditional students. UMHS President Warren Ross noted that the diverse life experiences of students like Moody are essential to the school's mission. By providing individualized advising through its Department of Residency and Professional Advising, the university continues to funnel graduates into both rural and underserved regions where physician demand remains acute.
