Thryv Therapeutics Expands SGK1 Platform into Neurodegenerative Research

The agreement, effective July 1, 2026, provides Thryv with a proprietary series of compounds developed by interdisciplinary research teams at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas Margarita Salas and the UAM Institute for Biomedical Research. Unlike the company’s existing portfolio, which relies on a single medicinal chemistry scaffold, this new series offers a separate chemotype specifically engineered to address neurodegeneration. By targeting SGK1, which influences tau phosphorylation and neuroinflammatory signaling, Thryv intends to tackle protein aggregation issues central to various tauopathies.

Debra Odink, President and Chief Development Officer, noted that the license provides a systematic foundation for exploring medical frontiers previously inaccessible to the company’s current assets. While the firm continues its clinical progress with lead candidate THRV-1268—currently in the WAVE II study for Long QT Syndrome Type 2—the newly acquired series will undergo parallel development. Thryv aims to nominate its first neuro-focused development candidate by 2027, maintaining its existing pace in cardiovascular research while diversifying its clinical pipeline.
