Hamamatsu and AIxMed Partner to Automate Cytology Slide Scanning

The partnership focuses on evaluating how ScanPilot can identify blurry or out-of-focus regions on digitized cytology slides. By proposing precise focal points and automated rescanning parameters, the software seeks to reduce the manual intervention typically required during slide preparation. Robert Moody, Strategic Manager of Digital Pathology at Hamamatsu, noted that the integration is specifically intended to refine urine cytology research workflows.

AIxMed CEO Samuel Chen highlighted that the current evaluation phase involves characterizing performance across specific slide types and scanner configurations. While the software is currently available for select NanoZoomer models, the companies emphasize that availability remains subject to jurisdictional regulations and specific hardware compatibility. This development marks a shift toward leveraging AI to handle the technical, repetitive aspects of digital pathology, allowing laboratories to streamline imaging processes.
