Kapsch TrafficCom Hits 115 Million Transponder Production Milestone

The Mississauga site, which serves as a central hub for the company's regional operations, moved to a new facility on Crestlawn Drive in 2024. This transition consolidated production and support teams under one roof, sustaining a manufacturing legacy that dates back to 1978. Today, over 100 employees manage the output of these devices, which are essential for major programs like E-ZPass and Ontario’s Highway 407. JB Kendrick, President of Kapsch TrafficCom North America, noted that the longevity of these devices is central to their utility, as they provide agencies with dependable revenue capture and drivers with a reliable, long-term tolling experience.

Beyond initial manufacturing, the facility emphasizes environmental sustainability through a robust refurbishment program. Since 2017, the team has reclaimed hundreds of thousands of units, diverting more than 26 tons of electronic waste from landfills. By applying rigorous testing and 10-year warranties to these refurbished transponders, the company aligns its operational goals with circular economy practices. This strategy, combined with the use of recycled packaging materials, reflects a broader effort to reduce the environmental footprint of traffic management technology across the company's global portfolio.
