Obstacle racing requires more than forward momentum; athletes must navigate complex sequences of climbing, jumping, and braking. CGX CEO Nan Liu developed the new range after observing a void in specialized gear capable of handling these high-tempo movements. The design process involved twenty professional athletes and over ten mold iterations to ensure the equipment survives the rigors of competitive courses.
The R1020 is engineered for the explosive, short-burst 100m format, prioritizing rapid starts and grip during transitions. In contrast, the R1010 supports longer 400m and 3km distances by balancing obstacle agility with the cushioning required for sustained running. Both models utilize a Vibram rubber outsole featuring Megagrip compound and Litebase technology to maintain traction across wet and dry surfaces.
Structural support remains a priority for the brand. The shoes incorporate a dual-zone stability midsole and a heel-locking system designed to minimize internal foot rotation during climbs and landings. The R1020 includes additional lateral wrap support to handle intense side-to-side loading. Following their international debut on the feet of the Chinese Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Race Team, the shoes will release in China on September 7, 2026, at an introductory price of RMB 1,099.
