Golden Pet Brands Eyes Billion-Dollar IPO

A valuation exceeding $1 billion is on the table for Golden Pet Brands as the California-based company prepares for a New York public listing. Sources familiar with the internal process confirm that investment banks, including Morgan Stanley and Barclays, are currently guiding the pet food firm toward a potential year-end debut.

Golden Pet Brands Eyes Billion-Dollar IPO

Launched in 2017 by the incubator Golden Hippo, the company eventually spun out as an independent entity operating under an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Its portfolio includes Dr. Marty Pets, Badlands Ranch, and Ultimate Pet Nutrition—brands that leverage high-profile associations, such as veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein, actress Katherine Heigl, and actor Rob Lowe, to market their canine and feline products. The company maintains two domestic manufacturing facilities to support its production of food, supplements, and treats.

To steer the transition into public markets, the firm overhauled its leadership earlier this year. In April, they appointed Apu Mody, a veteran of Mars and Procter & Gamble, as chief executive officer, and brought on former Xponential Fitness executive John Meloun as chief financial officer. This move aligns Golden Pet Brands with a broader wave of consumer-facing companies testing investor appetite, a group that includes Canadian rival Open Farm and beauty conglomerate Wella.
