Universal Technical Institute Opens Dedicated Skilled Trades Campus

This facility marks the company’s first location in the country focused exclusively on skilled trades, positioning itself to address the shifting labor demands of an increasingly automated industrial sector.

The site serves as the seventh Texas location for the organization, which operates under both the UTI and Concorde Career Colleges banners. Designed to accommodate up to 800 students, the facility offers specialized curricula in aviation, welding, HVACR, electrical systems, industrial maintenance, robotics, and wind energy. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, leadership emphasized that the pivot toward technical expertise is a direct response to students seeking career stability in an era of rapid technological change.

Kevin Prehn, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, noted that the institution is seeing heightened interest from individuals prioritizing hands-on problem-solving over traditional academic routes. Campus President Dr. Chris Finn highlighted the region's robust economy and local employer partnerships as the primary drivers for selecting San Antonio as the hub for this expansion. By aligning training directly with industry requirements, the school aims to bridge the gap between educational preparation and long-term workforce retention.
