The integration works by transforming a single MP4 upload into three distinct formats: an HLS video version for Apple Podcasts, the original video file, and an MP3 audio version for standard podcast apps. This adaptive delivery allows Apple Podcasts to adjust stream quality in real-time based on a user’s network connection, reducing buffering and ensuring smoother playback. Listeners can toggle between video and audio modes within the same episode without hunting for alternative versions of the show.
CEO Barry Kantz noted that the goal is to eliminate redundant publishing workflows, allowing creators to reach broader audiences without extra labor. To enable the feature, users must link their Apple Podcasts Connect account to the Blubrry dashboard via an API key. Once configured, the platform handles the conversion to 1080p Full HD HLS video automatically. The update is currently exclusive to Blubrry Publisher hosting customers, with PowerPress users continuing their existing WordPress-based workflows.
