Raziel and Fosun Pharma report Phase 3 success for RZL-012

A 30-percentage-point lead over placebo has cleared the path for a major market entry in China. Raziel Therapeutics and Fosun Pharma confirmed that their Phase 3 trial for the injectable fat-reduction drug RZL-012 met all primary and secondary endpoints, setting the stage for a 2026 regulatory filing.

The study, involving 480 patients, assessed the efficacy of a single treatment cycle in reducing submental fat, commonly known as a double chin. Participants receiving the drug demonstrated a decisive statistical advantage over those in the control group when evaluated 84 days post-treatment. This result marks a pivotal milestone for the Israel-based developer and its partner, Fosun Pharma, which manages the program through its affiliate, JuveStar.

Following these results, the companies intend to submit a New Drug Application to Chinese regulators by the end of 2026. Beyond the chin, Fosun is already preparing a follow-on trial to test the compound’s efficacy in broader body contouring. The drug functions by destroying targeted fat cells, which prevents future lipid accumulation in the treated area. Raziel CEO Alon Bloomenfeld noted that the company views the compound as a potential gold standard for the aesthetic market, positioning it to complement the growing demand for systemic weight-loss therapies.
