Her work at the IRS defined how businesses, non-profits, and government entities navigate the bonus structures required to qualify for clean energy credits. Mark Everson, alliant’s vice chairman and a former IRS commissioner, noted that Paz’s background provides the firm with technical oversight necessary to handle high-stakes taxpayer issues.
Energy infrastructure expansion has become a focal point for alliant, particularly regarding the power demands of the AI sector. The firm recently reported that out of 600 energy credit claims reviewed, only three met the rigorous standards set by Treasury and the IRS, highlighting the difficulty firms face in securing these incentives. Paz, who previously led the IRS’s corporate issues and credits division, will now oversee the identification and substantiation of these claims for alliant’s clients. Her transition from regulator to advisor marks a significant shift, as she moves from crafting the IRS playbook to ensuring corporate compliance with the standards she helped establish.
