Skin of Color Society Launches Global Council to Unify Dermatology

The council aims to bridge the gap in clinical knowledge by developing consensus statements on treatments for conditions affecting global populations. By coordinating scientific sessions at major international conferences—including events in Sao Paulo, Melbourne, Dubai, and Vienna—the organization is creating a unified platform for regulatory input and public education. This initiative builds on years of international outreach led by past SOCS presidents, including Dr. Seemal R. Desai, Dr. Andrew F. Alexis, and Dr. Nada Elbuluk.

To ensure the initiative reaches practitioners in resource-limited regions, the society has launched the Global Access Membership Fund. This program utilizes World Bank income classifications to tier membership dues, lowering barriers for international dermatologists to access professional networks and clinical insights. Current SOCS President Dr. Rebecca Vasquez notes that the council serves as a vital engine for health equity, inviting the global community to leverage these collaborative ties to improve patient outcomes in diverse communities worldwide. The effort is supported by Novartis.
