U.S. Pain Foundation Launches Campaign for 60 Million Chronic Pain Patients

Seventy-three percent of chronic pain patients report feeling socially isolated or misunderstood, according to new survey data from the U.S. Pain Foundation. To combat this, the organization is launching #OneVoiceForPain this September, a national campaign aimed at unifying millions of diverse experiences into a single, cohesive movement for systemic change.

U.S. Pain Foundation Launches Campaign for 60 Million Chronic Pain Patients

The campaign arrives as the foundation highlights a stark reality: chronic pain affects over 60 million Americans across every age group and diagnosis. Despite the medical complexity of these conditions, the organization’s recent survey of 2,000 participants revealed that the struggle for validation is a near-universal hurdle. Respondents noted an average of 10 distinct diagnoses each, yet the core challenge remains the same—a lack of effective care and societal recognition.

Nicole Hemmenway, CEO of the U.S. Pain Foundation, emphasized that while pain manifests differently for everyone, the necessity for support is constant. Throughout the month, the foundation will focus on four pillars: the impact of pain across life stages, commonalities between diagnoses, the prioritization of patient-centered data, and the need for collaborative advocacy. By centering lived experience, the initiative seeks to influence decision-makers and ensure that patients are no longer forced to navigate their conditions in isolation.
