William Gordon Frankle Named Chair of Psychiatry at NYU Langone

During his time as chief of psychiatry service at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, Dr. Frankle oversaw a period of rapid expansion, notably growing the behavioral health program at the Family Health Centers to handle roughly 165,000 patient visits annually. His efforts earned the American Psychiatric Association’s Silver Award in 2024 for his work with the Enhanced Treatment and Recovery program, which serves patients facing serious mental illness. Under his guidance, the Brooklyn service consistently reached the 90th percentile nationally for patient satisfaction.

Dr. Frankle brings a background in both clinical research and medical administration, holding an MBA from the University of Massachusetts alongside his medical credentials. An expert in schizophrenia and neuroreceptor imaging, he has spent a decade at NYU Langone investigating neurochemical abnormalities through positron emission tomography. As he assumes leadership, he inherits a department currently ranked No. 8 nationally by U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Marmar will remain with the faculty, transitioning to his new role as director of the Center for Precision Psychiatry.
