University at Buffalo Launches Electric Bus Fleet to Cut Campus Emissions

The fleet upgrade arrives via a strategic partnership between the university, transportation provider WeDriveU, and infrastructure specialist Zenobē. By replacing legacy diesel vehicles, the project aims to avoid 5,984 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. This 55.6% reduction in greenhouse gases is roughly equivalent to removing 1,395 passenger cars from local roads.

Christopher Austin, director of UB Parking and Transportation, noted that the buses balance reliability with environmental responsibility. To support the shift, ten dedicated chargers have been installed at the WeDriveU customer service center in Buffalo. The current deployment serves as the first phase of a four-year plan to fully electrify the Stampede fleet, positioning the university well ahead of the state’s 2045 deadline for heavy-duty vehicle emissions.
