Vetted VA Taps Industry Veterans for New Advisory Board

Two mortgage industry heavyweights, Mike Kortas of NEXA Lending and Tom Ahles of Edge Home Finance, have joined three top-tier Vetted VA professionals to form the organization's first Board of Advisors. The move marks a strategic shift to scale educational standards for veterans' home loan benefits nationwide.

Since its 2019 inception, Vetted VA has prioritized professional accountability over production volume, requiring members to complete 38 hours of coursework to earn their ranking. The new board, which also includes Gay Veale, Jason Sharon, and Mike Alberico, aims to codify this growth without diluting the organization's core commitment to education. Founder Christopher Griffith noted that while the group has spent seven years proving its model, this board structure provides the necessary leadership to reach more veterans and professionals.

The inclusion of Kortas and Ahles signals a rare alignment between competing wholesale mortgage firms. By focusing on a shared mission, the organization seeks to expand its reach beyond its current footprint of 100,000 community members. Vetted VA has already influenced over $2.3 billion in loan volume, with a goal to host daily live classes by 2027. This initiative remains strictly independent, with explicit prohibitions against recruiting or solicitation within its digital forums, ensuring the focus stays on the technical competence of those serving military borrowers.
