Amai Proteins Secures Israeli Approval for Sweelin Sweetener

Israel has become the third global market to authorize the use of sweelin, a precision-fermented sweet protein. Following recent clearances in the United States and Singapore, the Ministry of Health confirmed the ingredient is safe for use across more than 25 food and beverage categories, enabling significant sugar reduction.

Amai Proteins Secures Israeli Approval for Sweelin Sweetener

The Rehovot-based company’s proprietary sweetener functions as a clean-label alternative to conventional sugars. Derived through precision fermentation, the protein is roughly 3,000 times sweeter than sucrose, allowing manufacturers to cut sugar content by up to 70% while maintaining the flavor profiles consumers expect. The regulatory green light allows local producers to immediately integrate the ingredient into industrial formulations, including confectionery, condiments, and beverages.

Clinical data released alongside the approval indicates that the protein does not trigger spikes in blood glucose, insulin, or GLP-1 levels. Dr. Amir Guttman, CEO of Amai Proteins, noted that the company is prioritizing the local market as a key milestone in its global expansion strategy. By aligning with the growing demand for healthier, GLP-1 friendly products, the firm aims to support manufacturers in navigating stricter health mandates without sacrificing manufacturing performance or taste.
