International Media Delegation Embarks on Xinjiang Tour

A diverse cohort of journalists, social media influencers, and experts gathered in Urumqi on August 25 to launch the 2026 “A Date with China: Meet Xinjiang” tour. The week-long initiative aims to move beyond headlines, offering participants a firsthand look at the region’s cultural heritage and rapid economic development.

International Media Delegation Embarks on Xinjiang Tour

The delegation includes 16 representatives from 13 countries, spanning the United States, Germany, Brazil, and India. They are working alongside counterparts from major Chinese outlets, including China Daily and Global Times, to document the trip through a cross-cultural lens. During the opening ceremony, American expert Thomas Jay Hopkins noted that the journey serves as an opportunity to observe how Xinjiang has cultivated its unique identity through centuries of exchange.

Over the coming days, the group will traverse Urumqi and the Changji Hui autonomous prefecture. The itinerary emphasizes four specific pillars: technological innovation, rural revitalization, the integration of tourism with Silk Road history, and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. Now in its sixth year, the series has previously guided guests through 500 locations across the country, aiming to provide a panoramic view of China’s contemporary evolution for a global audience.
