The expansion targets the rapidly growing demand for lipid-based delivery systems, which are essential for mRNA vaccines and other nucleic acid therapeutics. By integrating advanced quality control and microbiological testing, the new site will accelerate the transition of life-saving medicines from early-stage research to commercial scale. This investment reinforces Vancouver’s position as a central node in the global biotechnology sector, building on the long-standing expertise of the local Evonik team.
Guido Skudlarek, head of the company’s Health Care business line, noted that the facility strengthens both regional and global networks. The project complements an international chain of sites spanning the United States and Germany, designed to manage the entire value chain from lipid chemistry to sterile manufacturing. With the global lipid nanoparticle market projected to reach 2.7 billion USD by 2034, the Vancouver expansion provides the necessary infrastructure to support pharmaceutical and biotech innovators in navigating complex regulatory and production requirements.
