The expansion marks a significant push to bridge the gap between digital convenience and physical retail. Accessed through the retailer’s app or via QR codes placed throughout store aisles, the assistant supports text, voice, and image uploads in multiple languages. This functionality builds on the company's existing Store Mode, which launched in 2022 to provide barcode scanning and wayfinding capabilities.
Jordan Broggi, EVP of Interconnected Retail, emphasized that the technology is designed to complement, not replace, human staff. By offloading routine product inquiries and logistical questions to the AI, the retailer aims to streamline the shopping process while keeping associates available for more complex customer needs. Early pilot testing indicated that users felt more confident in their purchasing decisions when using the assistant to verify product compatibility or determine the specific supplies required for home repair tasks.
