Corgi and Trucker Path Launch Insurance Program Based on Route Data

Traditional trucking insurance typically relies on loss runs and driver history, a model that often leaves small operations with fewer options than large fleets equipped with expensive telematics. This new program, available exclusively to users of the Trucker Path app, captures routing data from over 1.2 million professional drivers. Because fleets opt into the program, underwriters can assess exposure based on how drivers navigate around severe weather, cargo theft hotspots, and road restrictions before a trip begins.

Adam Smith, vice president of product and technology at Trucker Path Insurance, noted that while data is transforming the industry, this is the first time such granular planning information has been used to influence safety at this scale. By integrating directly into the app that many drivers already use, the program bypasses the need for costly hardware installations that are often prohibitive for firms running fewer than 10 trucks. Drew Bregman, head of strategy at Corgi, emphasized that the venture builds the policy around real-time navigational behavior rather than simply appending endorsements to standard, outdated insurance products.
