The partnership focuses on bypassing the friction of current ferry and international airport transit by utilizing Electra’s EL9 Ultra Short aircraft. These planes are designed to operate from compact access points located closer to urban centers, potentially transforming the transit time between Helsinki and Tallinn. The feasibility study, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, will investigate passenger demand, operating economics, and the infrastructure needed to integrate these low-emission flights into the existing transport network.
Diana Siegel, Vice President of Commercial Programs at Electra, noted that the route serves as an ideal test case due to the high volume of travel and current logistical hurdles. Beyond the Helsinki-Tallinn corridor, the project aims to identify additional regional destinations that could benefit from this model. The research will also explore the potential for a flight demonstration using Electra’s EL2 technology platform, providing a roadmap for future commercial service and public-private partnership models in the region.
