Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, opened the proceedings by urging participants to actively oppose secessionist activities and external interference. He framed the role of the younger generation as pivotal to national rejuvenation and the promotion of peaceful integration. Echoing this sentiment, KMT vice chairman Chang Jung-kung underscored the importance of the 1992 Consensus, arguing that prosperity for both sides remains contingent upon a mutual commitment to a single China and shared cultural roots.

Local officials are positioning Shanghai as a hub for these ambitions. Mayor Gong Zheng promised to expand policies that provide Taiwan residents and entrepreneurs with preferential access to the city’s resources. Beyond the formal policy discussions, the program includes a multi-day itinerary featuring technology forums, cultural workshops, and study tours across Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. The event aims to move beyond rhetoric, facilitating direct collaboration between youth leaders in sectors ranging from science to creative arts.
