Jeonju Paper Taps Valmet for PM 5 Modernization in South Korea

The modernization effort centers on reducing the drying process's energy footprint while maintaining consistent product quality for the mill’s newsprint and corrugated board lines. By integrating upgraded runnability systems and new press technology, the mill expects to see a marked improvement in overall process reliability. Mill Manager Yong-Sung Lee noted that the investment serves as a critical component of the company's long-term sustainability strategy, designed to lower environmental impact and sharpen the competitive edge of its production assets.

Valmet, which booked the order in the second quarter of 2026, will also supply a comprehensive spare parts package to ensure long-term machine performance. Kari Lamminmäki, head of the relevant business area at Valmet, emphasized that the project relies on a collaborative history between the two firms to tailor technical solutions to the specific demands of the Jeonju facility. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the rebuild marks a significant lifecycle extension for the PM 5 unit, positioning the mill to better serve its domestic and international markets.
