BioArctic expands partnerships as Leqembi sales climb

The agreement with Eli Lilly, valued at up to 800 million USD, signals a significant validation of BioArctic’s neurodegeneration platform. By combining the company’s BrainTransporter technology with an undisclosed Lilly drug candidate, the partnership aims to enhance treatment delivery across the blood-brain barrier. BioArctic receives an immediate 30 million USD upfront payment, with future milestone payments and tiered royalties contingent on development success. Beyond Alzheimer’s, the company has ventured into oncology through a new collaboration with Mesenkia Therapeutics to target glioblastoma, marking its first formal step into cancer research.

Financial results for the period ending June 30 reflect the transition costs associated with these strategic expansions, with net revenues reaching 247.5 million SEK. While royalty income from Leqembi rose to 179.4 million SEK—a 10 percent increase over the previous year—the company recorded an operating loss of 6.5 million SEK as it funneled capital into its research pipeline. Clinical data presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in London further bolstered the product’s market position, with the LEADER study reporting that over 75 percent of patients remained stable after 17 months of treatment. Looking toward 2027, the company is preparing for Phase 2b studies for its candidate exidavnemab, focusing on multiple system atrophy and Parkinson’s-related dementia.
