The venture combines Wilton Re’s liability management and underwriting expertise with the institutional investment reach of Sun Life’s SLC Management division. Under the terms of the deal, SLC Management will serve as the lead asset manager for the new entity, which is projected to scale toward $10 billion in managed assets. Both Sun Life and Wilton Re will provide equal equity commitments to anchor the platform.
Windsor Life Re will handle future business ceded by Wilton Re on a quota share basis, utilizing Sun Life’s global multi-asset platform to drive growth. Tom Murphy, President of Sun Life Asset Management, noted that the deal provides essential access to permanent capital, while Wilton Re CEO Dmitri Ponomarev emphasized that the partnership broadens his firm’s capacity within the life insurance and annuity market. The launch is slated for the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
