Metal Supermarkets Doubles Scholarship Funding to Tackle Trades Shortage

The 2026 recipients, each receiving $2,500, represent a diverse range of technical disciplines including diesel technology, precision machining, and forestry. This year's cohort features Gabriel Bautista, Natalie MacKell, Cole Paradis, Lane Waddell, Carmendy Andrews, Luke Maxwell, Joshua Henry, and Talus Harris. Since the program's inception in 2022, the company has distributed $60,000 to help students navigate the high costs of vocational training.

Ryan Pryznyk, President and CEO of Metal Supermarkets, emphasized that the funding serves as a direct response to the industry's deepening reliance on new talent. The projections for the sector are stark: industry reports suggest the United States will require over 320,000 new welding professionals by 2029, while Canada faces a similar demand for more than 256,000 skilled workers over the coming decade. The selection of winners was conducted by a panel of corporate staff and franchise owners from across the company’s network in both the United States and Canada.
