The Grid Intelligence Node addresses a growing gap in electrical infrastructure management as electrification increases the strain on existing networks. Installed in secondary substations and street cabinets, the hardware captures granular data on current, voltage, and power quality. According to Sam Shi, Chief Technology Officer at Corinex, the device provides the empirical evidence necessary for utilities to decide exactly when and where to intervene, moving beyond reliance on historical load profiles or delayed meter data.

Technically, the node tracks metrics up to the 51st harmonic and detects operational anomalies like phase imbalances and voltage swells. These data points feed into the Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence platform, creating a digital twin that reflects actual field conditions rather than theoretical models. This capability enables operators to better assess capacity for emerging loads such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. Because the system utilizes existing power lines for data transmission, utilities can gain this level of oversight while avoiding the costs associated with deploying separate communication layers or revenue-grade meters at every junction.
