Filene Research Institute Selects 27 Fintech Solutions for 2027 Trials

The applicant pool for the 2027 Test Menu saw a 39% surge compared to 2025, with 77% of candidates entering the program for the first time. Megan Freshour, Incubation Director at Filene, noted that the high quality of entries made the selection process difficult, emphasizing that each semifinalist was vetted for its potential to modernize credit union operations and improve member services.

From August 25–27, industry leaders and innovation experts will gather to review virtual pitches and determine which projects advance to the collaborative testing cohort in January 2027. The proposals fall into five primary categories, ranging from fraud protection and institutional automation to data intelligence and member engagement. Each project carries a specific designation—either Driving Growth or Advancing Impact—to ensure the final portfolio balances commercial expansion with measurable social benefits for credit union members.
