Relativity Networks Secures $62M to Accelerate AI Geography Shift

Relativity Networks has closed a $22 million funding round and secured a $40 million contract from a major hyperscaler, signaling a push to overcome the physical limits of AI scaling. The company’s optical technology aims to decouple data center placement from power constraints by slashing the latency penalty of long-distance connections.

The capital injection, led by Rhapsody Venture Partners, Bell Ventures Inc., and Faster Than Glass LLC, follows successful testing of the company's ChronoCore™ hollow-core fiber. This technology allows light to travel roughly 47% faster than in conventional solid-core glass, effectively expanding the geographic radius where AI data centers can operate while staying within strict latency budgets.

As power availability becomes the primary bottleneck for AI, operators are forced to distribute compute resources across wider regions. This shift creates what CEO Jason Eichenholz describes as a 'Propagation Tax'—an unavoidable latency delay caused by physical distance. To address this, Relativity Networks partnered with Prysmian to produce a high-density cable capable of housing 24 fibers in a 10-millimeter profile. The product has already cleared real-world deployment trials in standard microducts with Dura-Line, proving that the infrastructure is ready for the industry’s transition into what the firm calls the AI Geography Era.
