According to Ritu Narayan, founder and CEO, the platform aims to bridge the gap between efficient logistics and community-wide environmental benefits.
Beyond software, Zum is pushing into energy infrastructure through vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. By utilizing bidirectional charging, the company allows electric school buses to feed power back into the utility grid. This model debuted in Oakland in 2024 and has since expanded to major fleets in San Francisco and Branford, Connecticut. Currently, the company operates in 18 states, serving over 6,500 schools with a reported 98% on-time performance rate. The winners of the Reuters awards will be announced in London on October 21.
