Slingshot Bio Expands Flow Cytometry Portfolio With ViaComp Ultra Amine

Emeryville-based Slingshot Bio has launched ViaComp Ultra Amine, a synthetic cell mimic designed to streamline compensation workflows in multiparameter flow cytometry. The reagent allows researchers to capture both amine-reactive viability dyes and fluorophore-conjugated antibodies from multiple species within a single, stable, and ready-to-use liquid format.

Slingshot Bio Expands Flow Cytometry Portfolio With ViaComp Ultra Amine

Traditional flow cytometry controls often rely on donor-derived cells or polystyrene beads, which suffer from lot-to-lot variability and complex maintenance requirements. By leveraging techniques derived from semiconductor manufacturing, Slingshot Bio produces synthetic mimics that offer the biological relevance of cells alongside the reproducibility of industrial manufacturing. The new reagent functions as a unified control, supporting spectral unmixing across mouse, rat, hamster, rabbit, and human antibody host species.

The product aims to replace fragile, time-consuming biological controls with a non-biohazardous, shelf-stable solution that requires no preparation. According to the company, the particles generate distinct, well-separated fluorescence peaks, even in complex 36-color spectral panels. This consistency is intended to facilitate inter-site harmonization and instrument setup, addressing the regulatory and resource burdens common in high-parameter assay development. ViaComp Ultra Amine is now available for research applications, joining a growing catalog of standardized cell mimic tools that include the SpectraComp and PhenoCytes lines.
