Russian Crude Hits Majority Share in India’s Energy Mix

Daily shipments reached 2.47 million barrels throughout July, marking a 62.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge solidifies Russia's role as the primary provider for the world’s third-largest oil consumer, even as the geopolitical landscape grows increasingly complex. Data from Kpler confirms that Russia’s dominance remains unchallenged, with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia trailing at 617,000 and 586,000 barrels per day, respectively.

Since the fiscal year began on April 1, Russian imports have averaged over 2 million barrels daily, constituting 42% of total intake. This shift faces potential disruption from legislative moves in the United States, where a proposed bill seeks to impose 100% tariffs on nations purchasing Russian crude. Although the Senate has advanced the measure, it awaits approval in the House of Representatives. Analysts suggest that curbing these flows remains a logistical challenge, as Middle Eastern instability restricts the availability of alternative energy sources for Indian refiners.
