Synchrony Appoints Nimrod Barak as Chief AI Officer

Barak brings over two decades of experience in data and large-scale engineering to the Stamford-based company. Previously the head of the AI Center of Excellence at Citi, he will now oversee the deployment of AI capabilities across all business units. His mandate includes embedding these technologies into product development and internal operations while maintaining rigorous standards for responsible innovation.

Florin Arghirescu, EVP and Chief Technology Officer at Synchrony, highlighted the firm's existing momentum in the sector. Since 2024, the company has integrated tools like Synchrony GPT, with internal data showing that nearly 100% of the professional workforce currently utilizes AI resources. Furthermore, internal surveys indicate that 90% of employees express confidence in the company’s ethical use of these systems. Barak’s leadership is expected to capitalize on this foundation to refine customer experiences and identify new value streams for Synchrony’s extensive network of retail and health partners.
