Colorado Youth Sports Giving Day Sets $2 Million Goal for 2026

After raising nearly $9 million in its first two years, the initiative led by the Daniels Fund and the Aspen Institute’s Project Play Colorado continues to support nonprofits providing equipment, uniforms, and facilities. While Colorado’s statewide participation rate of 64.5% currently exceeds the federal Healthy People 2030 goal, significant disparities persist. Data from the 2023–24 National Survey of Children's Health shows that children from low-income households participate at a rate of 46.5%, compared to 76.8% for their high-income peers, while youth of color and those with disabilities also face notable hurdles.

To bridge these divides, the 2026 campaign introduces the America250 Fund, a $250,000 match dedicated to gifts made via donor-advised funds, wire transfers, or IRA rollovers. The event kicks off September 1 at Coors Field, where a portion of ticket sales will contribute directly to the incentive pool. Tom Farrey, executive director of Project Play, emphasizes that while the state has made gains, the mission remains focused on ensuring every child—regardless of background—feels supported on the field. Donors can participate online through Sept. 15 at YouthSportsGivingDay.org, while nonprofits have until Aug. 28 to register for the program.
