Vitamin Angels Joins Indonesian Ministry of Health to Boost Vitamin A

The collaboration marks a shift in Vitamin Angels’ decade-long presence in Indonesia. While the organization previously supported regional efforts through local nongovernmental groups, this initiative represents their first direct involvement in the federal government’s nationwide program. The campaign is vital for child health, as vitamin A supplementation can reduce mortality rates by up to 24% in at-risk populations.

Data from the 2023 National Health Survey highlights the urgency of this intervention: while many children receive one dose, only 32.2% of eligible children receive the recommended two doses annually. To bridge this gap, Vitamin Angels focused on training frontline health workers, hosting a national webinar that engaged over 21,000 participants. Additionally, the organization coordinated with local manufacturer Kimia Farma to secure and deliver critical vitamin supplies ahead of the August distribution window.

Dr. Lovely Daisy, Director of Family Health Services at the Ministry of Health, noted that the partnership strengthens both communication strategies and monitoring capacity. Looking ahead, the two entities are already refining protocols for the February 2027 campaign, aiming to integrate the lessons learned from this summer’s rollout to reach a wider portion of the country’s vulnerable youth.
