Equity Trust Expands Crypto IRA Options with AI-Driven Automation

Retirement investors gain new pathways for digital asset exposure as Westlake-based Equity Trust Company launches two distinct IRA tiers. By pairing an automated, algorithm-heavy platform with a self-directed trading model, the firm aims to bridge the gap between institutional-grade crypto strategies and tax-advantaged individual retirement accounts.

Equity Trust Expands Crypto IRA Options with AI-Driven Automation

The Automated Crypto IRA utilizes technology from Animus Technologies to execute Bitcoin and Ethereum trades based on predefined, rules-based models. While institutional investors typically face a $250,000 threshold for such algorithmic tools, Equity Trust has lowered the entry point for its IRA clients to $25,000. Animus CEO Maximilian Pace described the integration as a way to maintain a disciplined strategy within the constraints of retirement accounts.

For those preferring direct control, the Equity Crypto IRA provides access to a broader spectrum of assets, including stablecoins, DeFi tokens, and blockchain infrastructure projects. Trades are conducted through a proprietary platform integrated into the company’s existing myEQUITY management system. To mitigate the risks associated with digital volatility, Equity Trust employs institutional-grade custody protocols, utilizing cold wallet storage and specialty insurance coverage for all held assets.

CEO George Sullivan noted that the expansion reflects a shift in retirement planning, where investors increasingly seek both technological innovation and asset security. By removing opening fees for both account types, the firm is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the self-directed retirement market, moving beyond its traditional base of real estate and private equity investors.
