The addition of Aivado and Smith strengthens the Houston-based company's strategic oversight during a critical phase of its pipeline expansion. Rahul Aras, President and CEO of Iterion, noted that the new members bring a blend of clinical development expertise and experience in high-level strategic partnering. Aivado, currently CEO of Stelexis BioSciences, offers a background in guiding investigational assets through to regulatory approval, while Smith, a Venture Partner at OrbiMed, provides deep insight into commercialization and corporate alliances from his previous tenure at Pfizer.
Iterion's focus remains on tegavivint, a small molecule inhibitor designed to disrupt the TBL1:β-catenin complex. By targeting this mechanism, the drug aims to suppress oncogenic gene expression without disrupting essential cellular functions. Recent Phase 1 data presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting showed the drug was well-tolerated in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, providing a foundation for the company’s broader strategy to address metastatic colorectal cancer and other malignancies dependent on aberrant Wnt signaling.
