Galvanize Therapeutics Deploys Aliya EX System for First Patient Procedures

Redwood City-based Galvanize Therapeutics has successfully completed the first commercial procedures using its Aliya EX system, a pulsed electric field platform designed for soft tissue ablation. The milestone, occurring months after May 2026 FDA clearance, marks the system's debut in both percutaneous and endoscopic clinical settings across the United States.

The inaugural procedures involved two distinct medical approaches. Dr. Joseph Mammarapallil of Duke University School of Medicine performed the first percutaneous intervention, while Dr. Justin Thomas of Eisenhower Health led the first endoscopic application. Both physicians highlighted the system's ability to reach patient populations previously ineligible for standard ablation techniques.

Technically, the Aliya EX platform represents a significant scaling of the company's existing technology. By generating an ablation diameter twice as large as its predecessor, the system achieves a seven-fold increase in total ablation volume. Crucially, it maintains the non-thermal energy delivery that characterizes the platform, allowing for regulated cell death without damaging surrounding tissue architecture. CEO Doug Godshall noted that the expanded ablation zone enables clinicians to integrate biopsy and ablation into a single workflow, potentially improving overall clinical outcomes for oncology patients.
