American Public Education Taps Salesforce for AI-Driven Student Platform

American Public Education, Inc. is deploying a new AI-powered Student Lifecycle Platform to overhaul the academic experience across its four institutions. By integrating Salesforce’s Agentforce and Data 360, the company aims to replace manual administrative processes with automated, personalized support for its 109,000 enrolled students.

The platform is designed to unify admissions, financial aid, and career services into a single digital ecosystem. APEI leadership expects the system to act as a proactive academic partner, using AI agents to identify student needs and remove potential barriers before they disrupt progress. The technology utilizes the Salesforce Trust Layer to manage data privacy, employing masking and zero-retention protocols to safeguard student information as the system scales.

Angela Selden, CEO of APEI, stated the initiative is intended to create a more responsive academic environment for learners. The technical framework, spearheaded by Chief Innovation and Technology Officer James Kenigsberg, focuses on building units that adapt to individual learner behavior. Initial deployment is scheduled for Q1 2027 at Rasmussen University and the Hondros College of Nursing, with a full rollout across the entire system—including American Military University and American Public University—expected to conclude by mid-2028.
