College Football Stars Named to 2026 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

The Wuerffel Foundation has unveiled its 2026 watch list, recognizing 113 Football Bowl Subdivision players for their commitment to community service alongside academic and athletic achievement. Named for former Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel, the award highlights athletes who leverage their platforms to drive social impact beyond the gridiron.

The 113 nominees represent a broad cross-section of college football, with the Big Ten leading the pack with 18 candidates. The ACC, SEC, and Big 12 follow closely, each contributing 15 players to the list. These athletes are engaging in diverse philanthropic efforts, ranging from Marcus Ratcliffe’s educational initiatives for World War II veterans to Mudia Reuben’s clean water projects in Nigeria.

"It's an honor to recognize these student-athletes for the difference they are making in the lives of others," said Danny Wuerffel. The foundation will narrow the field in September, selecting 11 semifinalists for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. A final recipient will be announced December 11 during The Home Depot College Football Awards, with the trophy presentation scheduled for February 2027 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
