Advocacy Groups Challenge EEOC Proposal to End Demographic Reporting

For decades, labor advocates have utilized EEO-1 reports to expose the "Bamboo Ceiling," a persistent phenomenon where Asian American professionals are filtered out of executive and C-suite roles despite their prevalence in lower-level positions. Woo, the founding president of 80-20 and former Delaware Lieutenant Governor, questioned how organizations could monitor high-tech industry inequities or document discriminatory patterns if the commission strips away the foundational data required to build such evidence.

Rachel Lee, president and general counsel of Stand with Asian Americans, emphasized that the commission should be sharpening its oversight instruments rather than scrapping them. Following the morning hearing at the Jacqueline A. Berrien Training Center, the organizations plan to host a press conference at the National Press Club to further detail their opposition to the Proposed Rule. The EEOC's move to remove reporting requirements for companies with over 100 employees faces immediate scrutiny from civil rights groups who contend that transparency is the only effective defense against systemic promotion disparities.
