Sustainability Partners executed the deployment under its Solar Street Lighting as a Service™ program, a model that bundles system design, procurement, and long-term maintenance into a recurring fee structure. For the Highlands County district, this approach allowed for a phased installation schedule managed by Miller Electric Company, ensuring that lighting upgrades aligned with local operational priorities rather than the constraints of utility coordination.
District Manager Raymond "Boz" Bossert noted that the project addresses resident safety concerns while managing taxpayer resources. By leveraging advancements in battery storage and LED efficiency, the district has moved beyond the niche applications once associated with solar lighting, opting for a system capable of reliable, standalone nighttime illumination. This effort marks the latest collaboration between the district and Sustainability Partners, following previous work on water meter and wastewater infrastructure.
