Global gas turbine orders surged to 38 gigawatts in the second quarter, marking a 71% year-on-year increase. As electricity consumption climbs to fuel data centers and domestic manufacturing, the rush for power generation capacity is outpacing the ability of manufacturers to build the necessary equipment, pushing lead times to five years.

Siemens Energy leads the market, securing 12.5 GW in new orders during the second quarter, followed by General Electric with 11.3 GW and Mitsubishi Power with 5.3 GW. The United States remains the primary driver of this activity, accounting for half of the global total. This concentration of demand reflects the urgent need for reliable power to support the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The industry faces a significant supply squeeze as order volumes dwarf manufacturing capacity. While global orders reached 110 GW by the end of 2025, total manufacturing output remains capped between 60 and 70 GW. BloombergNEF data indicates that the cost of developing combined-cycle gas power plants has spiked by 49%, while Wood Mackenzie projects that turbine prices could climb by 195% by 2027, potentially hitting $600 per kilowatt.
