GN Launches ReSound Sensia Hearing Aids Powered by AI

Most hearing aids amplify the loudest voice in a room, regardless of who the user is actually trying to follow. GN’s new ReSound Sensia series attempts to solve this by using an AI platform that identifies and prioritizes the specific speech the listener wants to focus on in noisy settings.

The Danish-based company’s latest hardware utilizes a four-microphone directional beamformer combined with Deep Neural Network noise reduction. At the core of the device is the AcoustIQ system, which classifies sound environments in real time. According to GN, this technology achieves 88% greater classification accuracy than current premium alternatives, allowing the hearing aid to trigger specific features exactly when they are required.

Peter Justesen, President of GN’s Hearing division, noted that previous technologies often suppressed background noise indiscriminately, failing to differentiate between ambient sound and a target speaker. By shifting the focus to user-directed intent, the device aims to reduce the burden on patients who previously had to manually adjust settings in complex acoustic environments. The release also includes bimodal options compatible with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors. The ReSound Sensia range, along with the Beltone Illuminate line, debuts in the US, Germany, and Austria on August 20.
