Broad Foundation Grants $1.1 Million to College of the Canyons

The funding targets the expansion of specialized programs in advanced manufacturing, robotics, welding, and network technology. College leadership plans to utilize the investment to refine curricula and solidify industry pathways that lead directly to roles in aerospace, healthcare, and clean energy. Beyond classroom development, the grant provides for the placement of embedded career coaches and adjunct counselors at seven high schools within the William S. Hart Union High School District.

These coaches will offer one-on-one guidance to students, aiming to simplify the transition from secondary education to college-level technical training. Currently operating out of an interim facility on Diamond Place in Santa Clarita, the Advanced Technology Center is preparing to scale its operations. The long-term objective involves moving all technical instruction to a permanent, 81,000-square-foot facility slated for the college’s Valencia campus. This move will consolidate training for CNC production, robotics, and welding, allowing students to earn industry-recognized credentials that meet immediate regional labor demands.
